In 50 years will people say "Happy 9/11 bro?"
Sep 11, 2009 - 4:15 PM - by MrGrave
It seems strange how easily we forget people that have died in horrible tragedy. How often do you think about the tsunami in Southeast Asia, the earthquake in China or the hurricane in New Orleans?

Somehow 9/11 lives on, but not for the dead. Only their families remember them now. 9/11 lives on for the agenda it serves and the questions that were never answered. No one but Pat Robertson thinks a living entity caused these other disasters. Something about 9/11 remains tragic, whether it's that truth was defeated by lies or that a few flight school failures managed to infiltrate the strongest nation on earth, people are still upset.

Not upset in a real way, upset in a selfish way. 9/11 is food, it gives people talking points, it gives them an excuse to demean others for not agreeing with them. It gives them an excuse to hate people. It gives them an excuse to be outraged again, and people love outrage. They're addicted to it.

Heroin and Lab Rats
Aug 09, 2009 - 9:02 AM - by MrGrave
Studies show heroin acts as a disease. The user, once exposed to it, will seek it out consistently until the source is gone. The drug controls the user. These "studies" are almost exclusively performed on animals, namely lab rats. The funny thing is, these lab rats live in conditions that you could only describe as... depressing. They're simple metal cages with heroin feeders and nothing else to do with their time.

In 1981, Dr. Bruce Alexander of BC's Simon Fraser University conceived of an idea. What if he created an environment for the would be drug-addicts that was more comfortable and stimulating? With that, Rat Park was born. It was a 200sq ft, clean, temperate environment full of food, toys and places to dig, rest and mate. The backdrop was even painted with trees and lakes to make the rats feel more at home.

And, like any good experiment he needed a control group, rats kept in sad, uncomfortable, depressing cages like they were in virtually... [Read More]

Henry-Louise Gates OMG!
Jul 29, 2009 - 2:33 PM - by MrGrave
No, that's not the topic of this article. It's a stupid issue and I don't give a fuck. I don't give a fuck if Obama checks out a sweet ass in Italy or if he says Cops were acting stupidly when they were, in fact, acting stupidly.

I give a fuck about health care. That's the topic of this article. I'm writing it hoping to hear opinions about Obama's Recovery Act or what, exactly, he's pushing forward because I don't watch the news so I don't have many details about his individual plan. I don't know if his version of Universal Healthcare is actually going to fuck us up rather than help us.

What I do know is that in the 1920s light bulbs were being produced by several different companies, and they all had different sized sleeves so no two light bulbs of different companies could fit in the same socket. I think it was President Harvey who introduce the idea of regulated sleeve measurements so all bulbs could fit in the same sockets.

The... [Read More]

My recent acid trip
Jul 22, 2009 - 8:44 PM - by MrGrave
I don't how appropriate it is to talk about doing drugs on iX. I know some people are prejudiced against drugs, and may not agree with my attitude toward entheogens, but from experience I'd like to say I think entheogens should be available in church. I think the only thing wrong with entheogens is that the only people that do them are partiers looking to escape every day reality and have a good time. They should be related to spirituality, not just music concerts and parties.

I'd say the greatest spiritual experiences I've ever had were on LSD, mushrooms and salvia. The problem was I had these experiences in the context of a bunch of people looking for a good laugh and not looking to further themselves in this respect. Anyway, I'd like to talk about my last two trips just as a personal piece with no real point that I can think of.

I've done LSD 5 times, and mushrooms probably around 10 times, salvia 4 times (that worked, I've done it a couple times... [Read More]

Germany, still afraid of its past

Sorry, but god chose me today.
Jul 16, 2009 - 1:48 PM - by Station
I've always found faith to be perplexing. It really is an odd thing. Normally, it should make you happy, but I find it just plain confusing.

I remember seeing various historical documentaries with interviews of veterans who say things like "it was a miracle", "I must have had a guardian angel" or "god smiled on me that day" when talking about how they survived some ordeal. I usually would tune out the rest of the program after hearing that and start thinking to myself. So they believe god chose them to survive while someone else, be it a comrade or your enemy had to die?

I don't have a problem with people being happy about their own survival, but thanking god is like saying "thanks for choosing me over those other guys." What makes you think you're so special? Is it because you truly have a lot of faith?

I never liked that about... [Read More]
